Paula and Robert Boykin were among the first to step forward as philanthropic partners of Atrium Health Lake Norman. Their visionary gift enhances vital programs, helping meet emerging needs and deliver exceptional care to the region. In honor of their contribution, the Paula Jo and Robert W. Boykin Welcome Lobby now serves as the first space patients, families, and teammates experience when entering the hospital. This recognition reflects a shared belief that every healthcare experience begins with compassion, comfort, and a welcoming environment.

Opened in July 2025, Atrium Health Lake Norman serves a growing community in northern Mecklenburg County. The 171,000-square-foot facility offers 24/7 emergency care, maternity services, surgical care, advanced imaging, and a wide range of specialty services, all close to home.

The Paula Jo and Robert W. Boykin Welcome Lobby now greets patients, families, and teammates as they first enter Atrium Health Lake Norman.

To celebrate the Boykins’ lasting impact, Atrium Health Foundation and Atrium Health Lake Norman hosted a special dedication ceremony on July 1, 2026, marking the one-year anniversary of the hospital’s opening.

“While this is a physical space, it represents something much bigger,” said Brian Wofford, president of Atrium Health Lake Norman. “It’s about how people feel the moment they walk through these doors — often at a time when they need clarity, reassurance, or simply a sense that they’re in the right place.”
