Norsan Media: Latin Radiothon
Thanks to generous community support, Radiothon “Milagros Para Los Niños” held by Norsan Media, and broadcast on La Raza 106.1 and Latina 102.3 from the Seacrest Studios at Levine Children’s Hospital on July 20th, raised $113,000, which will help to fund critical equipment, services, and research to save and improve the lives of patients in our hospital’s care. Special recognition goes to CHS Board member Manuel Rey, for his kind appearance at the event.
Joedance
Each summer, a quaint neighborhood garden in the Historic Fourth Ward of Uptown Charlotte is transformed by the magic and talent of Charlotte filmmakers, producers, writers and directors who share their talents with supporters of the Joedance Film Festival. Since its inception in 2010, Joedance has raised close to $100,000 for pediatric cancer research at Levine Children’s Hospital, most recently enabling LCH to introduce novel cancer therapies such as Healios, a flavored mouth wash that lessens the severity of mouth sores for chemotherapy patients. 24 Hours of Booty
24 Hours of Booty celebrated its 15th anniversary with a record-breaking event. The 15th Annual 24 Hours of Booty presented by Levine Cancer Institute raised more than $1.67 million in 2016 alone to help support local cancer survivorship and patient navigation programs. Levine Cancer Institute and pediatric cancer programs at Levine Children’s Hospital continue to benefit greatly from this successful cycling event and fundraiser.
Philip Van Every Foundation
The Philip L. Van Every Foundation made a generous contribution of $50,000 to honor Dr. Donald Russ upon his retirement after a long and distinguished career at Mecklenburg Medical Group. These funds will help fund Levine Children’s Hospital’s renovation of the family “sleep rooms” located in the Neonatal Intensive Care Nurseries, allowing us to provide a truly comprehensive level of care and support to our infant patients and families.
James B. Hall, MD Endowed Lectureship Fund in Gynecologic Oncology
A host of physician colleagues, former patients, and friends, combined recently to establish the James B. Hall, MD Endowed Lectureship Fund in Gynecologic Oncology at Levine Cancer Institute. Total fundraising of over $100,000 for the Lectureship was announced at an event honoring Dr. Hall on June 28th. This is a wonderful way to recognize Dr. Hall’s distinguished service to CHS and our community for over 36 years.
Ganatra Family Gift
The Ganatra Family, through The Tansukh, Sarla, & Rajesh Ganatra Pediatric Cardiology Fund, committed $500,000 to support the new pediatric catheterization laboratories being developed at Levine Children’s Hospital. This funding will allow our Children’s Hospital to become considerably more innovative in its treatment, outreach, and educational programs serving pediatric cardiac patients and their families. The Ganatras have contributed nearly $2 million to Levine Children’s Hospital over the last eight years.
Kohl’s Sports Medicine Grant
Partnering with Carolinas HealthCare System’s Levine Children’s Hospital, Kohl’s Game Plan for Kids is a year-round community campaign designed to improve children’s health and wellness by focusing on education, fitness, nutrition, sports safety and injury prevention. Funding provided by previous Kohl’s grants, including a recent award of $136,000, have provided for a Kohl’s Cares SUV and a Kohl’s Cares Mobile Athletic Training vehicle that accompany our sports medicine professionals to each program stop. These mobile athletic training vehicles help teach the children about injury prevention, fitness, nutrition, safety and overall health and wellness.
This funding also supports the website Kohls Game Plan For Kids, an extension of each program site visit that provides children with a fun, interactive and educational website to continue their health and wellness learning while at home.
Ann P. Miller Charitable Trust
Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute received considerable support in August through a bequest from the Ann P. Miller Charitable Trust, including $40,000 to benefit the HEARTest Yard Fund, which supports free in-home care provided to families whose infant children are recovering from acute congenital heart surgery, and $20,000 to augment the charitable fund associated with the new Francis Robicsek, MD, PhD Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular Surgery at SHVI. The late Ms. Miller was a long-time cardiac nurse at SHVI.
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
A 2-year grant for $110,000 was awarded to Carolinas HealthCare Foundation to elevate the level of care provided to pediatric patients with cystic fibrosis living in Charlotte and the surrounding communities by establishing a Cystic Fibrosis Center for Western North Carolina at Levine Children’s Hospital.
