Atrium Health is improving access to COVID-19 testing in Mecklenburg and Cabarrus counties through two new Mobile Coronavirus Testing Units. These roving units are offering critical access for communities that have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19, including neighborhoods with higher levels of poverty, people of color, or with existing technology or transportation challenges.
In response to this unmet need, Atrium Health quickly created a targeted mobile solution to help remove barriers to care. Utilizing Geographical Information System (GIS) data, Atrium Health is using real-time information to identify emerging COVID-19 hotspots in communities and target where testing site locations are needed most. Our roving units – which allow patients to be screened, tested, and connected to critical resources – then work with community partners to locate testing sites that reach at-risk populations where they live. The testing sites are an important outreach effort that allow patients to be screened, tested and connected to critical resources.
