Liberty, fondly known as “Libby” to friends and family, was tragically struck by a car in her neighborhood. She was airlifted to the Ricky Hendrick Centers for Intensive Care at Levine Children’s Hospital, in critical condition and thrust into the fight for her life. A member of her therapy team recalls the first day she was able to sit up on her own: “It was like a fire was lit inside her. From that point on, nothing could stop her.” As Libby progressed, laughter filled the halls and she became an inspiration to everyone around her.
Liberty continues to make great strides in her recovery. Funds raised from CMN Hospitals balloon campaigns helped to support Liberty’s helicopter services, respiration equipment, and the Food Lion rehabilitation floor at LCHthat enabled Liberty to pull through. In 2013, Liberty was named the “CMN Champion” for the state of North Carolina. You all might remember her from the back of the Frosted Flakes box. Liberty was able to meet her fellow champions from all 50 states, Miss America, and even the president of the United States! (shown)
