Atrium Health Caregiver Heroes Teammate Emergency Care Fund*

Supports Atrium Health teammates with reasonable and necessary personal, family, living, or funeral expenses when they have incurred a hardship caused by catastrophic events beyond their control. The fund assists teammates in meeting basic needs when all other resources have been used.

*The Atrium Health Teammate Emergency Care Fund is held at Atrium Health Employee Assistance, Inc. (AHEA), a charitable organization separate from Atrium Health Foundation and The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Hospital Authority (which does business under the trade name Atrium Health).

Supports Survivorship and Wellness Programs at Levine Children’s Hospital (LCH). These programs allow pediatric cancer survivors to live their lives fully, in all areas, by providing physical, mental, and emotional support for the journey that continues, even after their cancer treatment is done.

 

All-In To Fight Cancer Fund

Supports the advancement of Levine Cancer Institute’s colorectal cancer research and program initiatives, as well as supporting patients and families in need at Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute and Atrium Health Levine Children’s.

An Atrium Health Foundation endowed fund dedicated to advancing melanoma research at Atrium Health Levine Cancer.

 

Baby J Ladley Pediatric Brain Tumor Research Fund

Benefits the Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Program at Levine Children’s Hospital. Within this, the fund supports the advancement of brain tumor patient care, research, education, medical training, public awareness, and other brain tumor relation programs. It also supports the establishment of new research protocols not currently available in our region.

Supports the advancement of breast cancer research, support, and prevention programs associated with Levine Cancer Institute.

Helps to provide comprehensive cancer education, early detection and access to care programs to broaden cancer health equity to reach those who need it the most. Supporting this fund allows for free screening and education services for medically vulnerable populations as well as the expansion of successful programming into new territories where gaps have been identified.

Supportive oncology takes into account the whole person, including all aspects of lifestyle. The Carolinas Supportive Oncology Fund supports safe, evidence-based complimentary therapies combined with the best conventional cancer treatments and medical practices. Programs include: Integrative Oncology, Cancer Survivorship, Cancer Rehabilitation, Oncology Nutrition, Oncology Palliative Medicine, Patient Navigation, Psycho-Oncology, Senior Oncology, and Research & education.

Levine Cancer Institute Patient Special Needs Fund 

Established to help cancer patients overcome some of the financial barriers associated with completing their treatments. This Fund is designed to provide partial, short-term assistance to help eligible patients with costs such as household bills, transportation, prosthetic devices, and temporary lodging. The Fund also provides qualifying patients with social works and patient navigators to help with financial hardships.

Supports advancements in early-stage cancer clinical research trials, patient programs, and provides educational opportunities to cancer research nursing staff focused on learning more about new treatment methods.

This program provides support group resources, access to mind-body-spirit speaker series, a peer matching program, a monthly newsletter, as well as social events. Our aim is to remove the barriers that make this experience feel isolating by matching patients with others that are like-minded and facing similar journeys.

Honoring Dr. Teresa Flippo-Morton’s distinguished career at Levine Cancer Institute as a skillful surgeon and remarkable mentor to residents and fellows, Atrium Health Foundation established the Teresa Flippo-Morton, MD, Surgical Oncology Fund. The Fund supports an array of educational and research opportunities for residents and fellows in the surgical oncology specialty, as well as notable LCI faculty educational endeavors in this area.

Supports the most critical programmatic and facility needs of Carolinas Rehabilitation, including professional education opportunities for nursing and therapy staff, patient and family support programs, community outreach and facility enhancements.

 

Carolinas Adaptive Sports & Adventures Program Fund 

The Adaptive Sports & Adventures Program is designed to challenge youth and adults with physical disabilities to develop skills that will lead to and enhance an active and productive lifestyle – one without barriers or limits. This fund supports local adaptive teams and programs, as well as purchasing adaptive equipment at Carolinas Rehabilitation.

 

Logan Stroud Special Needs Fund

Provides funding to deserving patients and families being treated at Carolinas Rehabilitation who need assistance to pay for medically necessary services, supplies, and special programs. This might include transportation vouchers or passes, scholarships to cover uninsured rehabilitation treatment programs, support group funding, special equipment and supplies, educational materials, temporary housing assistance, or various other services and programs for patient families.

 

Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Research & Education Fund

 Supports resident education programs and notable faculty research and educational endeavors associated with the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Carolinas Medical Center and/or Carolinas Rehabilitation.

 

Spinal Cord Injury Fund

Provides funding for equipment, resources, or program needs for the spinal cord injury team, as well as supporting Atrium’s Living Fit and Engaged (LIFE) program to help improve patient quality of life through exercise, employment counseling, and various other training.

Cardiovascular Care Transformation Fund

Supports innovation in education, research, and clinical care pathways, as well as training opportunities, pilot funding for personnel, programmatic needs and other special projects for the Center for Cardiovascular Care Transformation at Atrium Health’s Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute.

Provides support for the HEARTest Yard initiative, which is a collaboration between the Greg Olsen Foundation and Levine Children’s Hospital designed to make the transition from the hospital to the home much easier for families of children affected by congenital heart disease.

Children’s Miracle Network

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals provide unrestricted funds to their member hospitals through national and local partnerships, programs, and events. Locally, as a CMN member hospital, Levine Children’s Hospital benefits from CMN grants for pediatric care including funding for transformational medical programs, specialized equipment, and support services at pediatric facilities affiliated with Levine Children’s Hospital.

 

Children’s Special Needs Fund

Provides funding to deserving families of children being treated at Levine Children’s Hospital who require financial assistance to pay for medically necessary utility bills, transportation, services, supplies, equipment, and special programs.

 

Cottie & Cake Fund

The Cottie and Cake Fund was established in 2011 by the Hampton family and friends to honor their twins, Scotlynn and Katelynn, in appreciation of the care they received at Levine Children’s Hospital.  Funds support the Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery at Atrium Health’s Levine Children’s Hospital.

 

Ella Floyd Fund 

Provides special needs assistance for heart failure and transplant families at Atrium Health’s Levine Children’s Hospital.

 

Ewing’s Sarcoma Research Fund

Supports the research, personnel, and equipment needed to advance Ewing’s sarcoma research and care at Atrium Health Levine Children’s.

Supports key elements of patient care, and patient and family support, related to the Ricky Hendrick Centers for Intensive Care at Levine Children’s Hospital.

Supports essential recreational and educational programs conducted for hospitalized pediatric patients and siblings by the Child Life staff of Levine Children’s Hospital.

 

Levine Children’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Fund

Supports equipment improvement, furnish enhancements, specialized nursing education, and patient/ family support programs associated with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit within Levine Children’s Hospital.

The Pediatric Heart Failure & Transplant Special Needs Fund

For qualifying families who demonstrate financial need, this fund provides financial aid to families caring for a seriously ill or injured child being treated in Levine Children’s pediatric heart failure/transplant program. The fund will help families cover ancillary expenses related to their child’s care, such as housing expenses, utilities, transportation, temporary lodging, medical equipment, and other related needs identified by Levine Children’s Hospital social workers.

 

Pediatric Immunodeficiency Fund

Provides funding to enhance the pediatric immunodeficiency support programs and research efforts at Levine Children’s Hospital.

  

Pediatric Rheumatology Fund

Supports research, education, treatment, and patient family support programs associated with the Pediatric Rheumatology program at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital. 

 

Pediatric Sickle Cell Fund

Supports the advancement of pediatric sickle cell programs and patient / family support groups associated with Levine Children’s Hospital.

 

Type I Diabetes Hope Fund

Supports patient, family and clinical needs associated with newly diagnosed cases of Type I Diabetes at Levine Children’s Hospital.

Provides support for personnel, programmatic, research, and capital needs to establish the Ward Winslett Center for Complex and Rare Diseases and advance the care of pediatric rare disease patients at Atrium Health Levine Children’s.

Supports services, programs, and advancement of initiatives within nursing departments at Atrium Health in the Greater Charlotte region.

Supports research and education programs associated with liver, kidney, heart and other transplant programs of the Transplant Center at Carolinas Medical Center.

 

Emergency Medicine Research & Education Fund

Supports resident education and research programs, educational endeavors, and produce seed funding for selected faculty research projects associated with the Department of Emergency Medicine at Carolinas Medical Center.

Ross Trauma Center Fund

Initiated in 2001, this endowment fund provides substantial annual support for research studies, treatment initiatives, and educational programs at Carolinas Medical Center’s F. H. Sammy Ross Trauma Center.

 

Internal Medicine Research and Education Fund 

Supports resident activities such as travel for presentations, conferences, and global health rotations as well as resident wellness activities and team building events. The Fund also supports education and research opportunities both locally and regionally for residents and faculty.

Initiated in the early 1990’s in conjunction with the creation of Atrium Health’s Carolinas College of Health Sciences, this fund represents a collection of individual scholarship endowments for nursing scholarships benefiting students at The School of Nursing at The Carolinas College of Health Sciences.

 

Carolinas Surgical Fund

Supports educational, social and outreach activities involving Carolinas Medical Center Department of Surgery residents and alumni, along with faculty.

 

Carolinas Trauma Care Fund

Advances trauma care programs associated with Atrium Health.

 

Charis Cancer Fellowship Fund

Supports Breast Surgery and Related Fellowships at Levine Cancer Institute.

 

Family Medicine Research & Education Fund

Supports the advancement of research and education at Atrium Health’s Department of Family Medicine and the Carolinas Medical Center Family Medicine Residency program. 

 

Susan Stricker Radiologic Technology Scholarship Fund

This scholarship was established in honor of Susan Poston Stricker upon her retirement as the radiologic technology program director. Susan graduated from the Charlotte Memorial Radiologic Technology program in 1960 and was the heart and soul of the program as it grew and developed over the years.

 

Tarwater Endowment for Spiritual Care and Education

Supports Atrium Health’s Spiritual Care & Education programs, including: expansion and enhancement of chaplaincy residency or fellowship programs; support for new chaplaincy positions; support for visiting speakers and related educational initiatives.

 

Valya E. Visser Endowment for Pediatric Education

This Endowment honors Valya E. Visser, M.D., past chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Carolinas Medical Center, for her insightful leadership and commitment to the care and healing of children. Donations help enhance education and research opportunities for pediatric residents and faculty at CMC and Levine Children’s Hospital.

 

Musculoskeletal Institute Funds (MSKI)

Carolinas Muscular Dystrophy Research Fund

Initiated in 2003, this Fund is dedicated to research for select types of muscular dystrophy, particularly Limb/Girdle, which is currently being conducted at Carolinas Medical Center’s McColl-Lockwood Laboratory for MD Research.

 

Carolinas Sports Medicine Fund 

Supports Atrium Health’s sports medicine and injury care programs for adolescents, adults and seniors across the hospital system.

 

The Edward N. Hanley Jr., MD Endowed Chair for Ortho Surgery Fund

Supports Orthopaedic Surgery Resident education, research, and leadership development at Carolinas Medical Center.

 

The Orthopaedic Trauma Fund

Supports scientific and clinical research projects related to orthopaedic trauma. The fund also supports new or advanced treatment programs, resident or other educational programs related to orthopaedic trauma.

 

Neuroscience Funds

Carolinas ALS Research Fund

Supports clinical and scientific research activities directed toward enhanced diagnosis and treatment of ALS. All research is conducted under the direction of the Medical Director of CMC’s Carolinas Neuromuscular / ALS-MDA Center.

 

Carolinas Alzheimer’s Disease & Dementia Fund

Dedicated to advancing the Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia program by supporting vital patient support programs, education initiatives, and innovative research for Atrium Health patients experiencing Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

  

Carolinas Epilepsy Fund 

Supports vital patient services, advanced epilepsy treatment and innovative research at Atrium Health Neurosciences Institute.

 

Carolinas Multiple Sclerosis Fund

Seeks to involve local families who have been touched by multiple sclerosis (MS) in fundraising to support a broad array of clinical research and innovative treatment initiatives conducted by Atrium Health’s Neurosciences Institute.

 

Carolinas Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Endowment

Supports patient education and support programs, clinical trials and research, fellowships, and other medical programs enhancing patient care and research initiatives.

 

George Shinn Neurovascular Excellence and Innovations Fund

Advances neurovascular medicine and stroke care through support for the research, personnel, programmatic, and equipment needs at The George Shinn Comprehensive Stroke Center at Atrium Health.

 

Mike Rucker ALS Care Fund

Supports in-home respite caregiving services for ALS patients and their families.

 

Neurosciences Advancement Fund

Provides funding to deserving patients being treated at CMC Community Clinics who require financial assistance to pay for medically necessary utility bills, transportation, services, supplies, equipment, and special programs.

 

Friends of Huntersville Oaks Fund 

The Fund is dedicated to increasing the level of care patients need, including expanding residential-style skilled nursing care, rehabilitation, and long-term care services and programs.

 

Friends of Sardis Oaks

Supports Atrium Health’s Sardis Oaks location and benefits their world-class skilled nurses, medical services, and any rehabilitation care and services.

 

Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County Fund 

Supports the medical, psychological and spiritual needs of patients in Cabarrus County to ensure they receive the best end-of-life care.

 

Hospice of Union County Fund 

Supports the medical, psychological and spiritual needs of patients in Union County to ensure they receive the best end-of-life care.

 

NC Poison Control Fund 

Provides community assistance in the prevention, treatment, and surveillance of poisonings and overdoses.

 

Palliative Care Fund 

Supports educational literature for patients / families undergoing palliative care, community educational programs regarding advanced directives, relaxation items provided to patients, and memory packages for families to share with palliative care patients.

 

Pulmonary Funds

Jan & Ed Brown Pulmonary Medicine Advancement Fund

Supports the growth of clinical research impacting care delivery within the division of Pulmonary Medicine at Atrium Health.

 

The Robert A. Heyer, MD Pulmonary Medicine Fund 

Benefits the advancement of educational efforts and programs to increase overall patient care at the Pulmonary and Critical Care Division. These programs include additional therapy and support for patients and lectureships for physicians.

 

Union Pulmonary Patient Assistance Fund

Supports group programs, patient educational materials, special equipment and supplies, and follow-up care for uninsured and underinsured pulmonary patients residing in Union County or Anson County, including special needs such as transportation to medical appointments.

 

Women’s Health Funds

Anna’s Gift Fund

Anna’s Gift Fund was established in 2007 to support families who are bereaved as a result of the loss of an infant cared for by the Maternity-related units at CMC. Funds support patient teaching and educational materials, all supplies needed to create a memory box, grief support-related educational programs for unit nursing staff, and additional needs that may arise for families and nurses in perinatal loss.

 

The Atrium Health IVF Family Fund

Provides support for patients with infertility that require financial assistance for assisted reproductive techniques such as in vitro fertilization and frozen embryo transfer at the Reproductive Medicine and Infertility center.

 

OB/GYN Research & Education Fund

Supports a broad spectrum of resident and faculty research and educational endeavors, as well as other related programs, in association with the Department of OB/GYN.

 

Spangler Family Maternal Care and Healthy Beginnings Fund

Dedicated to reducing unintended pregnancies, improving maternal outcomes, and helping provide outstanding care to infants to better prepare them for academic success.

 

Women’s Care Drive to Thrive Mobile Unit Fund

Provides funding toward the operational costs associated with Drive To Thrive, a mobile unit providing healthcare, including cancer screenings, pregnancy confirmation, access to birth control and postpartum care, with services provided by Atrium Health Women’s Care

 

Women’s Health Services Advancement Fund

Supports advancements in women’s health by expanding research opportunities, and creating programs and educational initiatives to improve access to care for women from all walks of life. Also supports programs to provide car seats, bassinets, and other infant equipment for financially at-risk mothers.
