January 2017 – A $2 million commitment was announced from the Kerry and Simone Vickar Family Foundation in support of academic and research efforts at Levine Cancer Institute. The funds will be designated to establish an endowed chair in their name: The Kerry and Simone Vickar Family Foundation Endowed Chair in Hematologic Oncology and Blood Disorders.
January 2017 – This week Levine Children’s Hospital announced that they are actively enrolling patients in a new pediatric clinical trial developed by LCH physician, Javier Oesterheld, MD. The trial, a partnership with Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, will be open to teenagers and young adults with recurring sarcomas. This trial is being funded by long-time LCH supporters Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation, Joedance Film Festival, and the Isabella Santos Foundation.
December 2016 – The James R. and Bronnie L. Braswell Trust recently gifted $80,000 representing continued support for the Behavioral Health Integration program within Atrium Health-Anson’s primary care practice; the gift will also significantly support breast cancer screening programs currently conducted at Atrium Health-Anson, as well as programs at Hospice of Union and Anson County.
December 2016 – A generous contribution of $42,000 from the Gee Family Foundation will support scientific research efforts at Levine Cancer Institute to improve treatment of late-stage melanoma; this gift will also support the LCI Special Needs Fund, through which families have the support they need to cover the costs of convenient and appropriate temporary lodging that will significantly enhance their cancer treatment experience.
December 2016 – The Bosom Buddies Breast Cancer Fund benefited from a major gift of $50,000 raised during the 2016 Bosom Buddies tennis clinic, held over three days at the Weddington Swim and Raquet Club, the Levine Jewish Community Center, and other area tennis centers. These funds will be used to advance patient support services, breast cancer outreach, clinical research, and palliative care programs at Levine Cancer Institute.
December 2016 – Continuing a tradition of support for Levine Cancer Institute for many years, The Geoffrey Beene Foundation and Belk, Inc. generously donated $25,000 to support the Institute’s breast cancer programs. This gift was celebrated during a special video presentation at the 2016 Belk Bowl.
December 2016 – Following the 2016 Secret Santa radiothon—broadcast at Levine Children’s Hospital’s Seacrest Studios and hosted by Beasley Broadcasting’s Kiss 95.1FM morning show—more than $55,000 was contributed to LCH by hospital supporters who called the volunteer phone bank and pledged their support during the holiday season. We’re grateful to the Kiss 95.1FM team and their listeners for lifting the spirits of LCH patients, families, and staff each holiday season through this festive fundraising event.
