Since 1991, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals have partnered with over 300 colleges and universities across the nation to participate in dance marathons to benefit local partner hospitals. Locally, both University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Davidson College Dance Marathons benefit Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital.
This year, with fewer classmates on campus and a need to observe current health guidelines, student leaders were challenged to be creative and flexible when organizing a virtual dance marathon event. Both groups succeeded in finding ways to remain a prominent philanthropic force on their campus while providing COVID-safe participation opportunities for students.
Davidson For The Kids
Davidson College’s event took place on Saturday, March 27 and included a virtual watch party. Students exceeded their fundraising goal, raising over $15,000 for Levine Children’s. Leading up to the event, students helped raise funds in other creative ways, hosting virtual trivia nights, partnering with local restaurants for give-back campaigns, and even brought puppies to campus encouraging students and faculty to donate.
UNC Charlotte Ninerthon
Across town, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s executive board celebrated raising over $30,000 to benefit Levine Children’s. During their virtual event on Saturday, April 10, UNC Charlotte students hosted Miracle Families, bingo, a raffle, and had a surprise anonymous donor match all donations up to $3,000.
The driving force behind our local Dance Marathons is the dedicated group of students whose mission is to grow, inspire, and unite the community around a worthy cause – patients and families at Levine Children’s Hospital. All Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, including Levine Children’s Hospital, are charities that rely on significant philanthropic support from the community to provide the most cutting-edge and life-changing patient services, technology, medical equipment, and clinical research for the benefits of patients, including local families and those who travel to the Greater Charlotte region for medical care. 100% of proceeds from the Charlotte Dance Marathons stay local and benefit the areas of greatest need at Levine Children’s Hospital.
