On Sunday, October 3, Swim Across America – Charlotte hosted its annual charity swim event which exclusively benefits cancer research at Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute and Atrium Health Levine Children’s. Through its in-person open water swim at Camp Thunderbird and a new virtual option, called SAA My Way, Swim Across America has raised $215,000 in support of its mission to “Make Waves to Fight Cancer.”
For the past five years, Team Levine Cancer Institute has proudly supported the event by participating and raising funds. This year, team captain Dr. Lawrence Druhan, Dr. Michael Grunwald, and Dr. Colin Anderson all shared special messages of support and drove home the importance of this fundraiser for patients at Atrium Health.
“Through ongoing support from Swim Across America, we’re conducting one of the most comprehensive sequencing studies ever performed to understand the genetics of synovial sarcoma, which is a rare tumor that affects both children and adults,” shared Dr. Colin Anderson. “This study is going to allow us to identify new biomarkers to better understand the disease and uncover new treatment options for our patients in the future.”
On behalf of all the patients who will be impacted by this generous contribution, Atrium Health Foundation would like to thank Swim Across America and everyone who donated to this year’s event.
