$2 million commitment from The Leon Levine Foundation

This July, The Leon Levine Foundation made an extraordinary commitment of $2 million to support two new significant programs at Levine Cancer Institute: the first, an innovative Adolescent and Young Adult Survivorship Clinic at the new LCI II facility, will allow Atrium Health to transition care of pediatric cancer survivors from pediatric to an adult setting; and the second, will be a newly created Distinguished Chair in Laboratory Cancer Research, assisting Dr. Derek Raghavan’s efforts to recruit a nationally distinguished laboratory cancer research leader to LCI.

 

Atrium Health’s Carolinas Rehabilitation Receives American Hospital Association’s 2019 Quest for Quality Prize  

Announced by the American Hospital Association this July, Carolinas Rehabilitation is the first rehabilitation hospital in the nation to be recognized for commitment to exceptional quality, safety, and patient- and family-centered care. The Quest for Quality prize is one of the most prestigious awards in healthcare and also includes a grant award of $75,000.

 

$65,000 Estate Gift from the Rosalie Fountain Trust

The late Ms. Fountain’s additional bequest will benefit the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Program at Levine Children’s Hospital, supporting the team of physicians, nurses, child life specialists, social workers, research coordinators and support staff who work together to heal children diagnosed with pediatric cancer and related blood disorders. Her total bequest to Levine Children’s Hospital now amounts to $265,000.

 

CHILDREN’S MIRACLE NETWORK NEWS

Walmart and Sam’s Club

Walmart and Sam’s Club associates, customers and members in Charlotte, NC raised over $400,000 in this year’s fundraising campaign for Children’s Miracle Network and Levine Children’s Hospital. Celebrating its 32nd year of fundraising with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Walmart and Sam’s Club have collectively raised over $12.1 million for Levine Children’s.

 

Celebrating Seven Years of Partnership with Local Publix Stores

For nearly 30 years, Publix stores have supported Children’s Miracle Network hospitals around the country with their annual coupon sheet campaign, raising more than $3 million in 2019 alone. This year local stores did not disappoint, teaming up to raise over $90,000 for patients at Levine Children’s by offering $1, $3, and $5 coupon sheets to customers at the register. Proceeds from the coupon sheets stay local and benefit the world-class treatment provided to children at Levine Children’s Hospital every day.

Save Your Skin Melanoma Golf Classic

Through the support of many generous sponsors, led by Bank of America Merrill Lynch and SHERLOQ Solutions, this year’s Save Your Skin Melanoma Golf Classic raised $82,500 to benefit vital melanoma research and prevention programs conducted by Levine Cancer Institute.

 

Norsan Media Latin Radiothon Tops $150,000

Thanks to generous community support, Radiothon Milagros Para Los Niños – held by Norsan Media and broadcast on La Raza 106.1 – raised a record $150,000 for Levine Children’s Hospital this July. Now in its eighth year, the radiothon was broadcast live from the hospital’s Ryan Seacrest Studios. Contributions will fund essential medical equipment, healthcare services, clinical research, and patient and family support programs at Levine Children’s.

 

24 Foundation Rolls in Support for Cancer Programs

More than 1,125 cyclists and supporters of local cancer survivorship and patient navigation programs circled Charlotte’s iconic “Booty Loop” for 24 straight hours in late July. Levine Cancer Institute and Levine Children’s Hospital, both of which continue to benefit greatly from the annual cycling event, were well represented – from patient-advocates and caregivers, to support staff and Atrium Health leaders in attendance. A substantial portion of this year’s proceeds, which topped $1.4 million, will continue to support additional patient survivorship and wellness programs across Levine Children’s and Levine Cancer Institute.

 

A Decade of Joedance

This August, the Joedance Film Festival achieved a new milestone: a decade of fundraising for pediatric cancer research. Inspired by the late Joe Restaino’s love of movies, Joedance celebrates the cinematic achievements of remarkable and talented local filmmakers. It has become a beacon not only for this powerful art form, but more importantly for the pursuit of a cure to devastating and rare forms of cancer like sarcoma. Since its inception, Joedance has raised over $170,000 for Atrium Health’s Levine Children’s Hospital to help advance research related to rarer types of pediatric cancer. Learn more.

 

Isabella Santos Foundation Celebrates Christmas in July at LCH

A group of “elves” from the Isabella Santos Foundation picked out the best toys for some extra special boys and girls to help celebrate the Foundation’s annual “Christmas in July Day”. Even Santa ditched his summer surfboard and broke out his sleigh to travel to Levine Children’s Hospital, making a special stop at the oncology floor and outpatient clinic.
