Walmart and Sam’s Club associates, customers and members in Charlotte, NC put their money where the miracles are during the annual Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals fundraising campaign, raising $347,867 for Levine Children’s Hospital in 2018. The effort was part of a national campaign for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals which resulted in $30 million raised, putting the total raised in the U.S. and Canada since 1987 over the $1 billion milestone.

“Research done by Engage for Good shows that the cumulative $1 billion in cash raised for CMN Hospitals over the years by Walmart and Sam’s Club represents the largest amount ever raised for a nonprofit by one company in North America,” said David Hessekiel, president of Engage for Good, a trade group that tracks cross-sector efforts to generate positive social and business impacts.

Donations poured in from August 27 to October 7 as Walmart and Sam’s Club associates at 75 locations in the Charlotte area held various in-store fundraising activities and asked customers and members at the register to help kids live better. Store #3289 in West Jefferson, NC hosted a jailbreak fundraiser in which store associates raised $800 for CMN Hospitals by “locking” themselves in jail and collecting donations in order to be released. In Hickory, NC, Store #6355 hosted the 6th Annual Charity Golf Tournament, raising more than $6,000.

Funds raised for Levine Children’s Hospital will be used to provide lifesaving equipment, fund critical research, support top therapy programs and provide charitable pediatric care. Levine Children’s Hosptial has been named a U.S. News and World Report Best Children’s Hospital in multiple specialties for nearly a decade and is the best choice for pediatric care in the region. “The $1 billion raised by Walmart and Sam’s Club customers, members and associates has changed the world of children’s health care,” said John Lauck, president and CEO of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. “Because of their generosity, tens of millions of kids across the U.S. and Canada are living better.”

Walmart and Sam’s Club funds impact each of the 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, including Levine Children’s, which treat one in 10 children across North America.
