With support from 5MPOWER, the “Cougars 4 A Cure” grassroots fundraising initiative has evolved into a highly successful, school-based annual fundraiser. Since 2014, Cougars 4 A Cure has raised significant funding benefiting the Carolinas Bladder Cancer Fund, which supports innovative bladder cancer research at Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute.
Cougars 4 A Cure was first organized in 2014 by Charlotte Catholic High School Basketball Coach Andre Speech, and CCHS senior and student-coach, Matthew Salvino. Organized in connection with the CCHS Varsity basketball program, Cougars 4 A Cure is annually supported by students, parents, and Charlotte Catholic High School faculty and staff.
24 Foundation
24 Foundation continues its generous giving to help Levine Cancer Institute and Levine Children’s Hospital expand and grow. In 2016, 24 Foundation announced a $1.5 million commitment to Levine Cancer Institute and Levine Children’s Hospital in support of adult and pediatric cancer survivorship and wellness programs.
The support of 24 Foundation has impacted patient care at LCI and LCH by making a multidisciplinary survivorship and wellness program available to patients free of charge or at minimal cost. 24 Foundation also supports LCI’s nurse navigators, who assist patients and their family members with finding appropriate resources, answer questions and address concerns, and provide patient education. In addition, 24 Foundation continues to support clinical research advances through a permanent endowment established to support of innovative pediatric bone marrow transplant methods.
Adam Faulk Tanksley Foundation
Named in honor of pediatric cancer survivor Adam Tanksley, the Adam Faulk Tanksley Foundation annually raises significant funds to benefit Levine Children’s Developmental Therapeutics Program, helping Levine Children’s Hospital to fully implement early-stage, experimental clinical research trials for pediatric cancer patients. The availability of these trials helps to ensure local children who are battling this disease receive cutting-edge cancer treatment where they need it most – close to home.
Ally
Through Ally’s employee giving and matching gifts campaign, in addition to major gifts and grants made in recent years, Ally continues to be a significant supporter of Atrium Health’s mission. Notably, Ally stepped forward in 2020 with a major gift to support the Atrium Health Essential Needs Fund in response to the COVD-19 pandemic. Most recently, Ally committed $5 million to support equitable opportunities for individuals to pursue careers in healthcare. This gift establishes the Ally Charitable Foundation Workforce Development Center of Excellence as well as the Ally Charitable Foundation Workforce Development Scholarship Fund.
Through the Ally Charitable Foundation Workforce Development Center of Excellence, individuals from historically marginalized or diverse populations will have access to a variety of career development pathways to seek their education. The Ally Charitable Foundation Workforce Development Scholarship Fund, established with $1 million of the gift, will provide $50,000 per year for scholarships to Carolinas College of Health Sciences.
American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society has provided funding to Levine Cancer Institute breast cancer screening programs, general patient support programs, and research studies to improve treatment therapies for lymphoma.

Barings
A leader in international global investment—and a philanthropic leader in the Queen City—Barings first stepped forward in 2008 to support Levine Children’s Hospital by serving as Presenting Sponsor for the Annual Hopebuilders 5K Run/Walk—an event they’ve continued to generously support ever since. In addition to their corporate sponsorship, Barings organizes a corporate team and encourages its employees to fundraise individually and volunteer at the Hopebuilders 5K every year, and also sponsors the Levine Children’s Gala.
Bissell
For many years, Howard C. “Smoky” Bissell and his family have supported cancer programs at Atrium Health. The Bissell Family Foundation funded the Margaret (Peg) Oseland Kosonen Endowment honoring caregivers at Levine Cancer Institute, a generous gift that honors all nurses, made in extreme gratitude for the cancer care that the late Sara Harris Bissell received from Peg Kosonen. The family’s support of cancer initiatives has also been impactful in the area of ovarian cancer research through their leading sponsorship of the annual Stiletto Sprint fundraising event benefiting Levine Cancer Institute. The Family Foundation also recently made a $1 million gift to Levine Cancer Institute to support the Hall Gynecologic Oncology center honoring long-time GYN oncology division leader, Dr. James B. Hall. A natural-born leader, Smoky Bissell also served as campaign chair for the Levine Children’s Hospital “Dare to Dream” Campaign.
Bojangles'
Bojangles’ is making more than just great chicken and biscuits. They’re also making a major impact on neuromuscular disease in the Carolinas. In partnership with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Bojangles’ has contributed significant funds to support Muscular Dystrophy research at the McColl-Lockwood Laboratory at Carolinas Medical Center through its annual Bojangles’ Golf Classic.
Bosom Buddies
For over a decade, hundreds of tennis enthusiasts and breast cancer advocates have participated in a unique series of charity tennis clinics organized by the Bosom Buddies, a fundraising group founded by Donna Branham and a group of tennis players at the Weddington Swim and Racquet Club.
Since the event’s inception, Bosom Buddies Charity Clinics have successfully raised several hundred thousand dollars in funds to support free breast cancer screenings, innovative research, and special patient services at Levine Cancer Institute.

Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation
The Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation has granted over $1 million to support the innovative “Lung B.A.S.E.S” (Bringing Awareness, Screening & Education to improve Survivorship) cancer screening initiative that Levine Cancer Institute is conducting in the Charlotte, NC region. This funding allows Levine Cancer Institute to provide the highest level of preventive services and care for lung cancer patients from throughout the Carolinas. Access to optimal screening is paramount to early detection, intervention and survival for those at high risk for contracting this deadly disease. Thanks to this significant support by the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation, detection will occur earlier, intervention will begin sooner, and lives will certainly be saved.
Carolina Panthers
Carolinas HealthCare Foundation and the Carolina Panthers established the KEEP POUNDING ® Fund in 2003 to honor coach Sam Mills and player Mark Fields, both of whom had been diagnosed with cancer. Since that time, millions of dollars have been raised for the Keep Pounding Fund through wristband and keychain sales, memorabilia auctions, and an annual Keep Pounding 5K race that finishes on the team’s playing field. The KEEP POUNDING ® Fund has had a tremendous impact on Atrium Health cancer programs over the years, supporting early-stage clinical research and wellness activities for cancer survivors. In addition to supporting Levine Cancer Institute, the Fund also supports pediatric cancer research at Levine Children’s Hospital.
The Cato Corporation
Cato Corporation has been a partner of Atrium Health Foundation since 2006, when Cato generously donated to the Levine Children’s Hospital Building Fund. In 2007, Cato Corporation founded the Cato Scholarships Program, so that talented students could attend the Carolinas College of Health Sciences. The Cato Undergraduate Scholarship benefits students seeking to obtain their initial degree in the allied health sciences programs, and the Cato Excellence in Healthcare Award supports advanced education and training of current allied healthcare professionals with a capacity for advanced service. In 2019, Cato Corporation provided an additional $100,000 in support of these important scholarship programs.
Charlotte Knights
Since 2008, the Charlotte Knights Golf Classic has benefited Levine Children’s Hospital each year—with tremendous success. The Charlotte Knights also support breast cancer screenings and treatment programs conducted by Levine Cancer Institute through their annual Pink Knights fundraiser held at BB&T ballpark. Most recently, in 2018, the Charlotte Knights generously committed $173,000 to renovate the Levine Children’s Hospital’s 4th floor Rehabilitation playroom.
Charlotte Pipe & Foundry
Since 2010, employees of the family-owned Charlotte Pipe and Foundry have opened their hearts for children at Levine Children’s Hospital, helping to fund special patient and family support programs, as well as life-saving equipment upgrades, through their annual employee Choice Campaign. Just as they are leaders in plumbing and industrial systems, Charlotte Pipe and Foundry employees are also leading the way as a loyal partner for Levine Children’s Hospital.
Charlotteans 4 Cancer Cure
Charlotteans 4 Cancer Cure (C4CC) was established in 2012 by a group of women from the 18-Hole Ladies Golf Association at Carmel Country Club. The organization holds a charity golf tournament and related fundraising activities to bring the latest cancer research trials to Charlotte at Levine Cancer Institute. Many C4CC members’ lives have been positively impacted by receiving the finest treatment locally, at Levine Cancer Institute. In 2014, C4CC was recognized for its $100,000 commitment to support Phase I Clinical Trials and related research with the placement of a plaque in the Phase I Clinical Trials Family Waiting Room. “Choosing Hope For Charlotteans Fighting Cancer” is the mission of the C4CC.
Children's Medical Fund
For many years, the Children’s Medical Fund at Foundation For The Carolinas has provided significant support for Levine Children’s pediatric cancer research programs – including the planned pediatric cancer research laboratory to be located at Levine Cancer Institute’s expanded Charlotte facility opening in early 2019.

Delta Dental Community Care Foundation
The Delta Dental Community Care Foundation partners with local communities to increase access to care, support dental education and fund research that advances the oral health field. Most recently, a grant from the Delta Dental Foundation is supporting the Pediatric Dentistry Program at Levine Children’s Hospital, which helps to improve access to routine and specialized dental care for patients and families at the Dental Clinic on the CMC Main campus in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Driven Brands
Since 1998, Driven Brands Charitable Foundation has given generously to Levine Children’s Hospital, including helping to fund the establishment of the Ryan Seacrest Studios located in the atrium of Levine Children’s Hospital. The Seacrest Studios are an in-house multimedia broadcast center where patients have the ability to explore creative realms of radio, television, and new media right from their hospital rooms.
Eastwood Homes
Eastwood Homes first became a partner of Atrium Health and Levine Children’s Hospital in 2008, reinforcing the company’s long-standing commitment to giving back to the people of the Carolinas. Since that time, a portion of proceeds from every Charlotte-area home sale is donated to LCH. Wanting to make an even greater impact, Eastwood Homes introduced the Eastwood Homes Hospitality Cart, which circulates the patient floors and family waiting areas of Levine Children’s Hospital and provides healthy snacks, reading materials, gifts, books and toiletries at no charge to the children or families of the children that are staying in the hospital. In addition Eastwood Homes conducts an annual charity golf tournament that donates its substantial proceeds to Levine Children’s Seacrest Studios.
Great Clips
Since 2004, Great Clips salons across the nation have partnered with Children’s Miracle Network to support children’s hospitals through the Miracle Network Balloon sales and related fundraising events. With more than 3,500 salons throughout the U.S. and Canada, Great Clips is the world’s largest salon brand, making their support for CMN Hospitals especially impactful as they raise awareness for CMN Hospitals across the U.S.
Heineman Foundation of Charlotte
The Heineman Foundation has given significant grant support to Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute and Levine Cancer Institute, for the advancement of innovative research efforts to improve patient care in the medical specialties of cardiac surgery and multiple myeloma.
Hendrick Automotive, Motorsports, and Foundation
Rick Hendrick is known in the automotive business and NASCAR circuit for heating up the roadways. In late 2011, he and his family warmed the hearts of children in the Carolinas with a $1 million gift to support pediatric cardiovascular services and the pediatric congenital heart program at Levine Children’s Hospital. And, even before Levine Children’s Hospital first opened, Linda and Rick Hendrick made a leading gift to establish the Ricky Hendrick Centers for Intensive Care at the hospital, dedicated in honor of their late son. Through these and other major gifts, the Hendrick family and Hendrick Motorsports have continued to show tremendous support for the sickest and most acutely injured children treated at Levine Children’s Hospital.
Isabella Santos Foundation
Levine Children’s Hospital is grateful to partner with the Isabella Santos Foundation. Founded by Erin Santos, who has created a lasting legacy for her daughter Isabella, ISF has raised and contributed millions of dollars to support the local fight against rare pediatric cancers, including neuroblastoma. In 2018, ISF committed over $5 million to advance the rare and solid tumor program at LCH, most notably with a $1 million commitment to fund the region’s only state-of-the-art MIBG treatment suite, which opened in LCH in 2018. The donation – one of the single largest in the hospital’s 10-year history – will fund the Isabella Santos Foundation (ISF) Rare and Solid Tumor Program. The program is designed to research and treat a wide range of deadly cancers, including neuroblastoma – the type of cancer that Isabella fought.
The new ISF program will serve nearly one-third of the 135 new cancer patients Levine Children’s Hospital sees each year and will allow the hospital to expand their clinical trials and recruit a national expert as the Isabella Santos Foundation Endowed Chair in Rare and Solid Tumors.
Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation
Each year, in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation organizes a Charlotte “Kicks-It” kickball tournament in September, raising funds to benefit the Torrence E. Hemby Jr. Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Center—one of the fastest growing programs at Levine Children’s Hospital. Proceeds from past kickball tournaments have advanced cancer research initiatives at Levine Children’s Hospital that allow pediatric oncologists to conduct experimental-stage, phase I and phase II clinical trials. The support of the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation continues to elevate Levine Children’s Hospital’s pediatric cancer program as one of the region’s most comprehensive cancer care programs.
JELD-WEN
Since 2020, JELD-WEN has generously served as a co-presenting sponsorship of the Keep Pounding 5K. Each summer, a quaint neighborhood garden in the Historic Fourth Ward of Uptown Charlotte is transformed by the magic and talent of Charlotte filmmakers, producers, writers and directors who share their talents with supporters of the Joedance Film Festival. Since its inception six years ago, Joedance has raised significant funding for Levine Children’s Hospital to help advance pediatric oncology patient programs, services, and research—particularly that of rare cancers.

Since 2000, Kohl’s and the Kohl’s Cares ® cause merchandise program have raised millions to benefit Levine Children’s Hospital. The Martin Truex Jr. Foundation is a loyal and longtime friend of Levine Children’s Hospital. Their generosity has helped make the Ryan Seacrest Studios a reality as well as establish The Martin Truex Jr. Pediatric Special Needs Fund at LCH. This fund, made possible in part by the Foundation’s annual charity event, Catwalk for a Cause, provides financial assistance to hospitalized families in need. Miles Against Melanoma NC
Miles Against Melanoma – NC is an annual 5K event that raises funds locally for melanoma prevention and research programs, as well as patient special needs at Levine Cancer Institute. The event was founded in 2012 by Heather Joyner who lost her sister, Amy Robinson, to melanoma.
Morris-Jenkins
In 2008 Morris-Jenkins celebrated their 50th anniversary by pledging $500,000 to Levine Children’s Hospital, a commitment they continue to fulfill. The company’s contributions to Levine Children’s Hospital significantly support the hospital’s Child Life program, one that helps patients and their families by providing comforting distractions and support during procedures and throughout a child’s hospital stay. Additionally, Morris-Jenkins funds the Special Recognition Program designed to celebrate patients’ special milestones during their stay at the hospital, such as end of treatment or birthdays.
Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation
Levine Cancer Institute’s physicians are at the forefront of both translational and clinical research in multiple myeloma. Supporting their efforts is the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation through significant grant funding awarded by the Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium, an international clinical network of myeloma centers of excellence. This funding supports Levine Cancer Institute physicians as they collaborate with other researchers locally and throughout the world to identify and pursue potential breakthroughs in multiple myeloma diagnosis and treatment.
Paula Takacs Foundation for Sarcoma Research
The Paula Takacs Foundation raises significant annual funds to support sarcoma research at Levine Cancer Institute and Levine Children’s Hospital. This funding makes possible the development of novel clinical trials and other research aimed at improving the lives and health outcomes of sarcoma patients. The Foundation also honors the outstanding work and memory of its founder, Paula Takacs by expanding hope, elevating sarcoma awareness and nurturing our community of sarcoma survivors, caregivers, healthcare teams, loved ones and their families.

PNC Bank has shown tremendous support for children and families in the Carolinas as the presenting sponsor of the Levine Children’s Gala for the past decade, donating over $1.2 million to Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital. The Purple Promise Foundation To End Melanoma
The Purple Promise Foundation To End Melanoma provides generous support for melanoma research at Levine Cancer Institute as a tribute to the life and memory of Jessica Dovi. We are deeply honored to remember Jessica’s life in this meaningful way, and grateful for the continued generosity of the Purple Promise Foundation, and its founders David and Donna Hodgkins, which allows Levine Cancer Institute to further study late-stage melanoma to help researchers develop effective treatments for this devastating disease.
Receptions for Research / Greg Olsen Foundation
When Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen and his wife Kara learned their son T.J. would be born with a severe congenital heart defect – hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) – they faced all the emotion, challenges and decisions that are only known by parents of severely ill children. They instantly committed to giving their child the best chance at life, providing him access to the finest doctors, treatment and technology at Atrium Health’s Levine Children’s Hospital. As a result of the Olsen Family’s experience, the Greg Olsen Foundation—Receptions for Research—partnered with Carolinas HealthCare Foundation to establish The HEARTest Yard Fund. The HEARTest Yard initiative is a family service program at LCH that helps to make the transition from the hospital to the home much easier for families of infants affected by congenital heart disease. A key focus of the program is to help prevent complications and readmissions to the hospital between a patient’s progressive stages of recovery.
RE/MAX
RE/MAX first partnered with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in 1992 and has shown significant support to our patients ever since—most notably through their Miracle Home Program, their flagship fundraising initiative that provides associates the opportunity to make a donation on behalf of every transaction. In addition, local RE/MAX offices coordinate 5K runs, golf tournaments, and other special events benefiting LCH. The Pediatric Emergency Room at Levine Children’s Hospital, the first 24-hour pediatric emergency department in the region, is named in honor of RE/MAX.
Rite Aid
Since 1994, Rite Aid’s annual Miracle Balloon campaign and other fundraising efforts have raised millions of dollars for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The creativity and commitment from store managers and associates is evident in the golf tournaments, garage sales, car washes and numerous other events that benefit the 117 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in the communities where Rite Aid does business. Locally, approximately 85 Rite Aid locations, including a distribution center, fundraise for Levine Children’s Hospital.

Atrium Health Foundation’s partnership with Rodgers Builders extends more than 35 years. During that time, Atrium Health Levine Children’s and Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute have been honored beneficiaries of the construction company’s philanthropic giving. Led by President & CEO Pat Rodgers, Rodgers Builders has been a long-time supporter of the Levine Children’s Gala and a presenting sponsor of the Keep Pounding 5K since 2016. Pat Rodgers is also a member of the Giving Hope campaign cabinet.

Speedway has been a partner of Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals since 1991, including Levine Children’s Hospital locally. Since then, Speedway has raised millions of dollars for CMN hospitals nationwide. Speedway supports CMN Hospitals from the top-down, involving senior leadership as well store managers and associates. CMN Hospitals is Speedway’s single charitable focus within store operations, and we are grateful that Levine Children’s Hospital patients benefit from their employees’ and customers’ extraordinary generosity.

Speedway Children’s Charities have long shown their commitment to Levine Children’s Hospital, beginning with their generous gift to the hospital’s Dare to Dream campaign in 2007. Their support has continued since that time, including the organization’s generous sponsorship of the Levine Children’s Gala—the signature fundraising event benefiting Levine Children’s Hospital. Spirit Halloween (Spirit of Children)
As the country’s largest seasonal Halloween retailer, Spirit Halloween knows all about the power of Halloween: the excitement, the imagination, the fantasy, thrills, and chills. Since 2008, through its Spirit of Children Program, Spirit Halloween has brought that magic to patients at Levine Children’s Hospital. In addition to outfitting a group of Carolina Panther rookies, who visit patients on Halloween each year, Spirit Halloween store associates distribute costumes to patients and provide decorations, face painting, and costume parades for children and families at the hospital to enjoy. Most importantly, Spirit Halloween raises funds throughout the year to support the hospital’s Child Life Program.
SteelFab, Inc.
Headquartered in Charlotte, nationally-renowned steel fabricator SteelFab, Inc. has been a longtime support of Atrium Health patient programs, including longstanding support for Atrium Health Levine Children’s, Atrium Health Pineville, and muscular dystrophy research conducted by Atrium Health Neurosciences Institute. In 2023, SteelFab, Inc. stepped forward once more with a $1 million commitment divided evenly to help advance leading-edge Alzheimer’s research conducted by Atrium Health Neurosciences Institute, and to provide broad support for Atrium Health Behavioral Health. These gifts will have a profound impact on our patients and their loved ones as they live beyond their diagnoses.
Susan G. Komen Foundation
The Susan G. Komen Foundation has been a supporter of Levine Cancer Institute breast cancer programs since 2005 through the Charlotte affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. These funds are used to support services for patients being screened for, or battling, breast cancer, including mammograms and rehabilitative programs for underserved women in the region.
Swim Across America
Swim Across America, which supports cancer research at the most highly recognized hospitals and institutions across the country, began raising funds for Levine Cancer Institute in 2017. Swim Across America hosts charity swimming events nationwide to raise funds for clinical research aimed at decreasing instances of relapse among patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. In 2022, TowneBank pledged to provide scholarships to underrepresented students pursuing careers in health care at Carolinas College of Health Sciences for the next decade. TowneBank’s generous gift will help to ensure Carolinas College of Health Sciences can continue to recruit a diverse student body, including individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who will be given equitable opportunities to pursue their desired professions.
Truist Financial
Truist Financial remains a dedicated supporter of Atrium Health, demonstrating its continued commitment to local patient families. In 2023, Truist Financial, via the Truist Charitable Fund and Truist Foundation, donated $5.05 million to the Giving Hope campaign, which will advance several community-driven programs aimed at improving health outcomes and economic mobility for vulnerable community members in the Charlotte area. Truist is also a generous supporter of Atrium Health Levine Children’s, having served as a corporate sponsor of the Levine Children’s Gala for many years.

The NC-based company Unicon has been a loyal supporter of Levine Children’s Hospital for many years, raising funds through their annual charity golf tournament.
V Foundation
The Jimmy V Foundation, based in Cary, NC, has provided substantial grant support for a Levine Cancer Institute research study focused on non-small cell lung cancer.
Walmart and Sam's Club
Walmart and Sam’s Club have supported Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and Levine Children’s Hospital for many years. Since 1987, Walmart and Sam’s Club associates, customers and members have raised more than $1 billion for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery at Levine Children’s Hospital is named in honor of Walmart and Sam’s Club.
Wells Fargo
The Wells Fargo Foundation has granted significant funding in support of the Disparities in Cancer Care Program at Levine Cancer Institute to help eliminate the unequal burden of cancer in underserved communities. In addition, the Foundation has generously supported the Tarwater Endowment for Spiritual Care & Education, recognizing former Carolinas HealthCare System CEO Michael Tarwater’s distinguished service to CHS and enhancing our excellent chaplaincy programs.
Also, since 2010, Champions for Education, Inc.—the non-profit host organization that operates the Wells Fargo Championship—has donated several hundred thousand dollars to the Levine Children’s Hospital to fund clinical cancer research efforts, making Wells Fargo Championship a founding member of the Carolinas Kids Cancer Research Coalition.
