At 18 months old, lively Emma (above, right) was always trying to keep up with her big sister, Ashlynn (shown above, left). Beginning in early December 2011, her parents noticed that Emma had reoccurring fevers, rashes, unexplained leg pain, and ear infections. On December 27, she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. She was admitted to Levine Children’s Hospital immediately and started receiving weekly chemotherapy treatment and blood transfusions.
While her cancer fight was difficult, Emma was not fighting alone. Just like always, she wanted Ashlynn by her side; so, Ashlynn was in the fight too. It has now been over 3 years since Emma’s first diagnosis. Today, April 9, Emma and her family celebrated her first complete year in remission!
