In recognition of National Women’s Health & Fitness Day, Suzanna Fox, MD, Deputy Chief Physician Executive and Senior Medical Director, Atrium Health Women’s Service Line, shares a special message with women everywhere:
“There is a saying that resonates more deeply with me this year ever before: ‘The strength of a woman can carry the weight of the world.‘
With all that 2020 has asked of us – uprooting our comfort zone, protecting our family, working from home (while adding professional home school teacher to our resume) – it is more important than ever to press pause and remind the women in our lives to prioritize health and wellness so we can continue serving as the backbone for those around us.
As we celebrate National Women’s Health & Fitness Day, we understand that in order to be truly healthy from the inside out, we must focus on the key areas of: nutrition, physical activity, community, and routine gynecologic exams. Women can decrease their risks for many age-related health outcomes such as cardiovascular disease, hypertension and obesity by making small changes over time. Regular OB/GYN appointments allow women to understand their health, and I am proud to share that Atrium Health has more than 70 years of experience providing the best care for women.
The Women’s Health Services Advancement Fund was started in memory of my physician partner and friend, Ed Stubbs. This fund allows us the opportunity to elevate the care for our patients in ways we never have before. Opportunities to take care of ALL. To care for our underserved patients within our communities, to provide additional access, and to create trust and earlier prenatal care to decrease maternal and infant mortality.”
Dr. Fox sees each woman who walks through our doors as an individual with unique needs. Everyday, she is driven to provide the best experience for all of them. This drive began decades ago when she established Eastover University OB/GYN with George E. Stubbs, III, in 1994. Representing a newer service line, Dr. Fox has shaped a program that brings together physicians, sub specialties and Advanced Practice Providers to ensure multiple access points for patients. Combining the various services has helped create unity and support among the team and created better connectivity to care for patients.
