April Impact Report:

April 2: Levine Children’s Gala – The 2nd Annual Levine Children’s Gala welcomed nearly 500 guests to Quail Hollow Club. The gala was made possible by the generous support of many community sponsors, most notably, presenting sponsor PNC Bank and reception sponsor UTC Aerospace. During the Levine Children’s Gala, Sandra Levine generously stepped forward on behalf of The Leon Levine Foundation and issued a spontaneous $100,000 fundraising challenge to all gala attendees in support of Levine Children’s Hospital. Thanks to the generosity of our guests during the evening’s live and silent auction, their contributions were sufficient to meet this challenge and will be matched, dollar for dollar with the help of The Leon Levine Foundation. Net proceeds from the event exceeded $450,000.

April 15: Lydia’s Legacy – Lydia’s Legacy, a grassroots not-for-profit organization committed to raising awareness of gynecologic cancer and funding gynecologic cancer research through donations, raised $15,000 for the Carolinas Ovarian Cancer Fund at Levine Cancer Institute through the organization’s 2nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament. Learn more about Lydia’s Legacy here.

April 21-23: Cycle to the Sea – This April marked the 17th anniversary of the Adaptive Sports & Adventures Program’s annual Cycle to the Sea event.  Cyclists from across the country, including able-bodied cyclists and hand-cyclists, covered the 180-mile journey from Charlotte, NC, to North Myrtle Beach, SC, with a clear purpose to raise funds for Carolinas Rehabilitation’s Adaptive Sports & Adventures Program (ASAP). This unique fundraising event also serves to break down the stigmas that surround physical disabilities.  This year, Cycle to the Sea raised $65,000 to support the mission of ASAP—to provide high quality, adaptive sport and recreation opportunities to youth and adults with physical disabilities, and to help participants develop skills that will lead to and enhance an active and productive lifestyle.

April 29: Hearts For Rehab Fundraiser – The 5th Annual “Hearts for Rehab” fundraiser brought together over 200 guests for an event filled with notable guest speakers and the opportunity to hear life changing testimonies. Net proceeds totaling $35,000 will fund leading-edge equipment, adaptive sports programs, special needs funds, novel research and educational programs at Carolinas Rehabilitation.

April 30: Miles Against Melanoma – Saturday, April 30, marked the 5th Annual Miles Against Melanoma 5k Run/Walk, an annual event that raises awareness and funds for melanoma. This year’s fundraising resulted in net proceeds of $30,000, all of which will stay in the local community and benefit the Carolina’s Melanoma and Immunotherapy Fund at Levine Cancer Institute. Learn more about Miles Against Melanoma.

April 30: Sarcoma Stomp – Nearly 800 runners, walkers, volunteers, and supporters of the Paula Takacs Foundation for Sarcoma Research gathered at Christ Lutheran Church for the organization’s annual Sarcoma Stomp a 5K Run and Kids Dash that raised record net proceeds of $165,000 to benefit the Paula Takacs Sarcoma Research Fund at Levine Cancer Institute. Learn more about this dedicated fundraising partner here.

April 30: Carolinas 4 A Cure Bladder Cancer Walk – Building upon earlier bladder cancer fundraising success in 2016 and led by the 5MPower Foundation – a Charlotte-area family foundation – the inaugural Carolinas 4 A Cure Bladder Cancer Walk was enjoyed by more than 75 participants on Saturday, April 30. The 2-miles walk raises funds and awareness for the Carolinas Bladder Cancer Fund at Levine Cancer Institute.
