On November 29, founders of In the NIC of Time, a bi-annual event benefiting the Cottie and Cake Fund at Levine Children’s Hospital, celebrated a milestone in the fundraising success of this unique event and ongoing fundraising initiative. Proceeds from In the NIC of Time events, along with year-round fundraising for the Cottie and Cake Fund, benefit equipment upgrades and technological advancements in the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care and Progressive Care Nurseries, and at Charlotte Fetal Care. Since 2015, In the NIC of Time fundraising, combined with a generous donation from the Philip L. Van Every Foundation, has exceeded $133,000.
We would like to thank Dick Pahle, President of the Philip L. Van Every Foundation, as well as In the NIC of Time committee members (pictured) who have given generously of their time and resources for the benefit of neonatal patients and their families.
The Cottie and Cake Fund, administered by Carolinas HealthCare Foundation, has funded a great number of projects and services benefiting Levine Children’s Hospital, as well as Charlotte Fetal Care, including:
Dornier Diode Laser: Charlotte Fetal Care Center was able to purchase this piece of equipment making them the only fetal care center offering Intrautero Fetoscopic Laser Ablation in the entire Southeast.
Neonatal webcam system: Neonatal Intensive Care and Progressive Care Nurseries at Levine Children’s Hospital now have webcams installed at every isolette for real-time viewing of babies while parents are away from the hospital.
NICN Sleep Rooms / Aesthetic and Machine Upgrades: In 2016, proceeds from In the NIC of Time, as well as direct contributions to the Cottie & Cake Fund, will support aesthetic and machine upgrades to the six sleep rooms located in the Neonatal Intensive Care Nurseries at Levine Children’s Hospital. Without the upgrades, the rooms could not accommodate all families, such as those with twin newborns.
About In the NIC of Time:
In 2011, the Hampton family set out to create a unique event—“In the NIC of Time”—to bring awareness to the miracles that take place every day in our own community. They wanted to use their story to ask the community to support the Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery at Levine Children’s Hospital and the Charlotte Fetal Care Center, both places where the Hampton family witnessed miracles. Since its inception, In the NIC of Time has raised over $580,000 for the Cottie & Cake Fund.
