Under the microscope

Cancer cells cannot evade the scrutiny of researchers striving to find a cure. Gifts from families such as the Levines are funding this vital local research.

The Alvin and Daniel Levine Families

Alvin Levine and his son Daniel have a diverse history of business success in the Charlotte region. Alvin Levine was the founder of
Pic ‘n' Pay Shoes, which he later sold and went on to form Levine
Properties with Daniel, proving to be a major force in the development
of uptown Charlotte.

The Alvin and Daniel Levine families also have a long and diverse
history of charitable giving and volunteer leadership within Carolinas
HealthCare System. Alvin Levine served many years and provided
invaluable service to the boards of both Carolinas HealthCare
System and Carolinas HealthCare Foundation. The Alvin and
Daniel Levine families later joined together as leading supporters
during the formation of Levine Children's Hospital. Most recently,
the two families have combined to provide a $100,000 gift to enrich
programs and services at Levine Cancer Institute – laying the
groundwork for comprehensive patient support programs and
translational research efforts that will set LCI apart as an
extraordinary place of healing as well as a center for
innovative care.
