Robert Haywood Morrison Foundation

The groundbreaking of the Robert Haywood Morrison Gardens,
adjacent to Levine Cancer Institute's research and administrative
headquarters building on the Carolinas Medical Center campus,
took place on October 3. These gardens honor a $250,000 gift
from the Robert Haywood Morrison Foundation and will serve as
a gateway to LCI and a place of respite for cancer patients
and families.

Mr. Morrison was a distinguished
Charlotte businessman,
environmentalist, and philanthropist.
The Robert Haywood Morrison
Foundation was established in
his honor, and has embarked on a
joint venture with Mecklenburg
County as part of the History Trail
on Little Sugar Creek Greenway in
the creation of this public garden.

Dedicated in Robert Haywood
Morrison's memory, the gardens will
feature a fountain, varied seasonal
flowers and shrubs and a statue by
artist Wendy Ross. This statue will be
the focal point of the gardens and
depict Jane Wilkes, the founder of the
precursor hospital, St. Peters, to
Charlotte Memorial Hospital
(now CMC).

L-R: Cynthia Tyson (Robert Haywood Morrison Foundation); Jim Garges (Mecklenburg County);
Jim Hynes (Former Chairman of the Board of CHS); and Dr. Derek Raghavan
(President, Levine Cancer Institute) break ground for the new garden.
