Supporters of all ages turned out for the 2012 Stiletto Sprint, a fundraiser benefiting ovarian cancer programs
at Levine Cancer Institute.

Stiletto Sprint

A good pair of heels can save a life.

Hundreds of sprinters, spectators, and cancer survivors gathered
outside SouthPark Mall on Saturday, April 28 for the Second Annual
Stiletto Sprint raising over $80,000 for the Carolinas Ovarian Cancer
Fund at Levine Cancer Institute (LCI).

This memorable fundraising event featured women and men of all
ages competing in an 80-yard dash wearing at least 2 ½ inch high
heeled stilettos. Many wore teal – the color representing ovarian
cancer. Most people ran in honor or memory of loved ones.
Spectators enjoyed the competition, as well as teal manicures,
massages, and a shoe fashion show.

The event was inspired by the Teal Magnolias – the ovarian cancer
support group at LCI. Ovarian cancer is known as "the disease that
whispers" because symptoms are so vague that most women are
diagnosed at advanced stages. The Teal Magnolias were joined
by many other cancer survivors – all sharing a common bond of
strength, passion, and hope.

Smoky Bissell, whose Bissell Companies
served as presenting
sponsor of the event
for the second year,
helped kick off the
Stiletto Sprint.
